For fellow vegans forced to attend a Thanksgiving celebration with an omnivore family, I would like to propose a form of mini protest. At least in my family, we are required to dress up slightly when attending Thanksgiving (like good Christians), so I have decided this year to dress all in black, as if I am attending a funeral. Which I pretty much am. I am in mourning for the dead bird that will be ripped apart before my eyes. I am in mourning for the turkey genocide that has taken place so that humans can look each other in the eye, and say “thanks.” I am in mourning for the billions of animals suffering and dying each year, when it feels like there is nothing I can do to stop it.
